The Galaxy S8 is available for pre-order now and is already breaking records in Korea and USA. Whether you have already pre-ordered one, or plan to pick one up after some time, there are plenty of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus accessories worthy of your consideration.
From memory cards to wireless chargers to VR headsets — here are some of the best Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus accessories on the market.
Just like the Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S8 offers support for microSD cards so you can increase the storage of the phone. This time, however, Samsung has increased the onboard storage up to 64GB which will be plenty for most people. But if you’re worried about filling up your storage with music, videos and pictures, you should grab a microSD card to never run out of storage.
My suggestion is to go for a SanDisk Extreme Class 3 microSD card. A Class 3 card will provide your faster read and write speed which will be useful if you are trying to record 4K or slow motion videos or just generally loading large files from SD card.
A backup drive can be a great addition of your Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus accessories. The Galaxy S8 is capable of shooting 4K videos and if you are someone who takes a lot of photos and videos, you can easily fill up the storage of your phone. This is where a backup drive is useful. You can just plug it in your phone and copy/move data from your phone to the drive using a file manager and free up storage.
My recommendation is to buy a USB-C pendrive, because the Galaxy S8 has a USB-C port and USB-C drives are also future proof. But there are also USB C to Micro USB adapters, in case you don’t wanna buy a new pendrive.
UBS C to USB Adapters
This adapter from Nonda is a great accessory because it is a USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter (most adapter are USB-C to USB 2.0). The USB 3.0 feature will give you faster read/write speeds, just make sure that the drive you are using is also 3.0 compatible.
This Anker adapters is minimalist solution for using Micro USB cables with USB-C phones. This is a USB C to USB 2.0 adapter which means that it will work with all pendrives but the read/write speeds will be slower than the adapter listed above. It is still a good choice if you don’t really care about read/write speeds and just want an adapter to copy small files.
Cases and Skins
I have already written an article on best cases for Galaxy S8 and S8 plus which covers cases that can provide better grip and some protection to something that has military grade protection. So, if you need a case for your Galaxy S8 you should check out that article.
If you don’t like to use a case with your smartphone but still want something to add extra grip to the Galaxy S8, you can use a skin. A skin weighs about couple grams and does not add any bulk to the smartphone but it does provide additional grip.
If you are not a fan of the standard peel-and-stick screen protectors then you should try a wet install screen protector. They are easy to install and usually keep your device free of air bubbles. The IQ Shield LiquidSkin screen protector is a wet-install screen protector. It is also an inexpensive as a standard screen protector too.
Fast Wireless Charger
The Galaxy S8 has built-in wireless charging just like its predecessor. But the Galaxy S8 uses a new fast wireless charging technology which means that the old wireless charger will not wirelessly charge the S8 at the fastest speed. The new Samsung Fast wireless charger for Galaxy S8 is currently the best choice. It supports up to 9 watt wireless fast charge for 1.4x faster wireless charging speed. It can be used in standing or pad orientation and has a built in fan to cool your device while charging.
This wireless charger can be used for any Qi enabled phone. But the fast wireless charging can only be utilized by Galaxy S8 as of now.
If you want to charge you S8 in a hurry while you are in the car then you need a compatible USB-C car charger. This USB-C car charger by Tronsmart is one of the best options available. It has a fixed USB-C cable and a quick charge compatible USB-A port. It can automatically detect your smartphone and deliver the fastest charging speed.
Power Bank / Portable Charger
If you are looking for a power bank that is light, compact and comes with massive battery then you should try the Anker PowerCore+ 20100 power bank. It has a 20100 mAH battery which can easily charge your S8 for 6 times and still have some juice left. It can simultaneously charge 3 devices at the same time. The USB-C port acts as input and output. It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB to USB-C cable. The PowerCore+ is also available in less capacity.
Virtual Reality (VR) Headset
One of the best parts about buying a Samsung device is that it can be used with the Gear VR headset. The Gear VR allows you to experience high quality VR without the expense of buying specialised rig like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. Samsung launched a new Gear VR along with the Galaxy S8.
The 2017 Gear VR comes with a controller but it is not much different from previous models of Gear VR. You can get the new 2017 Gear VR for free with Galaxy S8 pre-order. The separate pre-order of 2017 Gear VR is not currently available.
If you already have an old Gear VR then you can use it with the S8 also. The controller can be bought separately.
If you just want to try out VR and don’t to buy a $100 Gear VR then you can get a glimpse at virtual reality using a Google Cardboard headset. They’re cheap and easy to use. They only give basic VR experience unlike the Gear VR but is still good enough if you just wanna try out VR.
There are a bunch of Google Cardboard based VR headsets available, just make sure to get one with a head strap for a comfortable use.
